“Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.”
Psalms 105:1–3 NIV
It wasn’t till I was 32 years old that I was able to truly hear the music. Words cannot describe the incredible joy I have to be able to enjoy music since then. The reason I love hymns so much is that I grew up in a church that sang them often but I wasn’t able to enjoy hearing the music. The music in the background and the words together made it difficult to hear it. Of course I could only hear 30 percent with hearing aids back then. (I was born deaf.) However, reading the hymns in the hymn book while the church congregation singing and quietly trying to sing along was still a joy even though I only hear so little. I cherished those hymns closely to my heart. I memorized those words and played it in my head. The words of the old hymns gets to me every time. They were really the only songs I knew growing up till I was 32. That’s when I had my cochlear implant. Since having a cochlear implant I can hear around 85-90 percent. Isn’t that cool? That’s only in my left ear. I’m completely deaf in my right ear. The funny thing is I really don’t know any other songs than hymns and praise and worship since then. I’ve tried country music or other songs. I find myself always going back to Christian music and enjoy them so much more. The biggest blessing since then is to hear my daughter Anne sing. Words cannot describe this mama’s heart hearing her baby girl sing. I’m so thankful to God to give me the strength and encouragement to proceed with the cochlear implant back then.
With God anything is possible. I have something to praise about and give him all the glory for getting me through this journey.
In Psalms 105: 1-2 “Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.”
When was the last time you sing and praise to our Heavenly Father? If it’s been a while, maybe give God the glory today? Give it a try. It’ll do your heart good.
Praying for you today.
