“On Christ, the solid Rock, I STAND..”
A guy by the name of Edward Mote wrote a song called “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less” which is also later known as “The Solid Rock”.
”On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand:
all other ground is sinking sand;
all other ground is sinking sand;”
Of course, there’s more to the song, but if you never heard of it you should definitely check the lyrics. Mote started writing this song when he read the verse in the Bible where Jesus was talking (in a parable) about what happens if you build a house on a sand vs rock. We understand that Jesus wasn’t really talking about a house, but us as a person. He pointed out that we need to be standing on a solid rock. Let’s read on to Matthew 7:24-29
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.””
Matthew 7:24-27 NIV
I’m not going to go into long detail discussing these verses. My takeaway from this passage is that we should be asking ourselves the question, Are we standing on a rock or are we standing on sand? What I would like to emphasis, is that without Christ, without reading/studying God’s words, or even without prayers there is a very good chance you’re in sinking sand.
Without prayers, without reading God’s words, or worship, Do you have a relationship with God? I’d say it’s nearly impossible to be standing on solid ground. Jesus is our firm foundation. Like Jesus stated, building a house on a rock can weather any storm life throws at us, but obviously you’re not going to be able to weather any storms if you’re standing on a sinking sand. It would make it very difficult to do so.
If you feel like you’re on a sinking sand and ready for a solid ground to be underneath you, one thing you can start is reaching out to God in prayer and ask for guidance. Next thing is reading the Bible. If you don’t have a bible, you can download a HOLY BIBLE app on your phone for free. If you read this devotion, know that I’ve said a prayer for you and thinking of you. I hope this will help you to find the solid ground, a rock on which to stand. You can message me if you have a prayer request or need guidance through my CONTACT page. Also for those of you that are on solid ground, maybe you can reach to those that need help to get to the solid ground. They are all around us, pray that God will keep your heart tender to opportunities to help and share with others.
