“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
Matthew 6:19-20 NIV
Ask yourself this, if you were given 24 hours left to live, what would you spend your time doing?
One thing for sure about life is that we aren’t promised tomorrow. Our future is uncertain. In Matthew , Jesus was pointing out that in the end, all the things that we obsess over or even hoard or keep spending money on won’t matter. It will all be left behind. The way we spend our time investing in people is what really matters.
Material things don’t love us back. Asking Siri on the cell phone if she loves you , does not count!!
Whether it’s your family, friends , co-workers, neighbors , church family or even a stranger. Don’t forget them. When was the last time you talked to someone about salvation? (I’ll admit I’m guilty of this one) , invite someone to church? Or have a devotion/or just to spend time with your kids or grandkids? If there is an ongoing feud or if you hold a grudge against someone, maybe it’s time to let that go. Does it seem that reconciliation is impossible? Remember, with God all things are possible. Here’s another verse to take into consideration. Ephesians 4:32 NIV “Be kind and compassionate to one another , forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you”. Sometimes saying I’m sorry first even if you don’t think it’s your fault is far better than never reconciling till it’s too late. Psst….this isn’t about the disagreement, try to leave that in the past. Concentrate on moving forward. I know it’s not easy to do and I know every situation is different. Just pray about it and take it into consideration.
Today I challenge you to find time in your busy schedule to spend with people or call someone and talk to them for more than 5 minutes. I’m not talking about the people in your immediate family or friends that you spend a lot of time with. I mean the ones that you haven’t been in touch with or maybe there’s someone out there that needs a visit from you. Maybe it’s your neighbor. If not a call, at least send a text to a friend/family you haven’t spoken to in a while. Invest in people, not things. Make an investment today!
