“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God ; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” John 14:1-4 NIV
Do you know the old hymn called “This World Is Not My Home” ?
“This world is not my home, I’m just a passing through. My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue….“
I love this song as it reminds me of my grandfather, before he passed away, he would make a point to sing this song at the majority of our family gatherings. So to me this old hymn is part of my family heritage that I love and cherish. Every time I think of this song, I can hear Grandpa singing it and it makes me miss him. I know I’ll see him again as he’s one of my treasures beyond the blue!
Losing a loved one is hard to say the least but, it’s the peace knowing they are in better place that makes it easier to deal with. For we know that one day we will see our saved loved ones again. Jesus tells us in John 14:1-4 , that as a believer, God has a home for us and Jesus himself is preparing a place for us. When our time comes or when Jesus returns for us, the place Jesus has prepared and our saved loved ones will waiting for us. This world is definitely not our home, we are just passing through. We have to ask ourselves, are we prepared? Are we ready? What about our family, friends or coworkers? When was the last time you or I shared the gospel? As a follower of Christ, we have something worth celebrating and worth sharing. We have a mansion over the hilltop waiting.
“For we know that if the earthly tent we lie in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” 2 Corinthians 5:1 NIV
